The Route

From the northern end of the Willamette Valley, we'll first head east through the Columbia Gorge. Below are day-by-day routes from mapmyride.com (apologies for any annoying ads):

North Portland to Ainsworth State Park via Columbia River bike path and the Historic Columbia River Highway

Day Two
Ainsworth State Park to Deschutes River State Recreation Area

Three
South to Madras, roughly following Highway 97

Four
Madras to Highway 20 via Crooked River Highway

Four Alternate
Madras to Highway 20 via a route south of the Crooked River Highway

Highway 20 to near Burns, OR

Six
Burns, OR to Fields, OR via Catlow Valley Road (southern pass of Steens Mt.)

Six Alternate
Burns, OR to Fields, OR via northern pass of Steens Mt.

Seven
From Fields, OR south on Fields-Denio Rd to Highway 140 - cross into Nevada

  1. YAAA HOOO!! Have fun. Stay warm. Enjoy the town of Maupin! It's a long climb out but well worth dropping into a warm valley with hamburgers and cheese fries.
