The only thing about riding a bike from Portland to Phoenix is that in-between there is something called... NEVADA.

The Gravel Cometh

Our travels took us through the frozen Crooked River canyon, ascending the Prineville reservoir, and along the ridge of the the watershed which fed it. We encountered our first snow and then it came. "Pavement Ends." ~20 miles later we learned at Brothers Stage Stop that Hwy 27 is Oregon's only gravel state highway. Luckily it was a good gravel road, pavement smooth. Rolling hills greeted us as we traversed an arm of the valley, climbing back onto the plateau and out along an arrow straight gravel strip back to tarmac.
